As we usher in the new year of 2022, a ceremony was held at Taihe Institute (TI) to welcome H.E. Mr. Vladimir Imamovich Norov, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan and former Secretary-General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO), as a distinguished fellow.
As an eminent Uzbekistani statesman and diplomat, Mr. Norov previously served as the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan and the Ambassador of Uzbekistan to Germany, Switzerland, Poland, and Belgium. After his completion of tenure as the SCO Secretary-General, he has been reappointed as the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan.
As the SCO Secretary-General, from January 1, 2019 to December 31, 2021, Mr. Norov made outstanding contributions to promoting cooperation and exchanges between the SCO member states and China. Following his predecessor Mr. Rashid Alimov, Mr. Norov's joining as a TI distinguished fellow showcases the continuum and development of cooperation as well as friendship between the SCO secretariat and TI.
Taihe Institute looks forward to working with Mr. Norov to foster China-Uzbekistan relations, further the benefits of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), and promote green economic development within the region, among others.
