On November 12, the Ambassador of the Netherlands to China, His Excellency Wim Geerts visited the Taihe Institute with three other guests from the Embassy and discussed the topic of “Perceptions of the Future Development of China-Europe Relations” with fellows of the Institute. The discussion was chaired by Mr. Wu Hailong, Lead Research Fellow in International Relations. Mrs. Ma Keqing and Mr. Ding Yifan, senior fellows of the Taihe Institute, also attended the meeting.
Ambassador Wim Geerts applauded the Chinese efforts to prevent and control the COVID-19 epidemic, and measures it has taken to avoid the politicization of vaccines. He said that China and Europe should make joint efforts on issues of concern to both sides like trade liberalization, sustainable development, labor standards, climate change, medicine and healthcare, environmental pollution and population aging. Meanwhile, he hopes that China will continue to play an important role in the international community and commit itself to creating a constructive environment that benefits the development of globalization. He also pointed out that China and Europe should enhance people-to-people exchanges and deepen their mutual trust so as to improve public awareness and opinion basis.
It is vital to resolve disputes and misunderstandings caused by cultural differences through dialogue and consultation. In the future, the Taihe Institute, as a private think tank, will continue to play an important role in creating more platforms for deeper mutual understanding and trust and contributing to worldwide cultural exchange and peaceful development.
