On June 5, 2020, a ceremony was held to celebrate Ambassador Shi Mingde’s appointment as a senior fellow of the Taihe Institute.
Ambassador Shi Mingde has been engaged in diplomatic work for more than 40 years. He has served as Counsellor of the Chinese Embassy in Germany, Deputy Director-General of the Department of European Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the PRC, Minister-Counsellor and Minister of the Chinese Embassy in Germany, Director of the Policy Research Bureau of the Central Foreign Affairs Office, China’s Ambassador to Austria, and has been appointed as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Chinese Embassy in Germany from 2012 to 2019. In addition to his work in the diplomatic field, Ambassador Shi, along with Mr. Li Shilong, also co-translated “Beyond Society” written by the German writer Gunter Wallraff, which contributed to further understanding among the Chinese people of German literature.
As a senior diplomat, Ambassador Shi Mingde has witnessed the development of China-EU and China-German relations, and has made outstanding contributions to the promotion of friendship and cooperation between China and Europe as well as China and Germany. His participation will further strengthen the research capacity of the Taihe Institute in the field of international relations, especially in respect of China’s relations with the EU.
