On November 22nd, 2019, Mr. Rashid Alimov, Senior Fellow of Taihe Institute, had discussions with some Taihe researchers and members of Bairen Benevolent Foundation on certain issues such as the business environment and investment opportunities in Central Asia.
Mr. Alimov once served as Foreign Minister of the Republic of Tajikistan, Permanent Representative of the Republic of Tajikistan to the United Nations, Special and Plenipotentiary Ambassador to the People's Republic of China and Secretary-General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization. Mr. Alimov said that despite the presence of rampant terrorist forces in Afghanistan, this does not have a major impact on the security of Central Asia, and the international community should work together to promote the settlement of the Afghan issue through negotiations. The Central Asian region is rich in natural and labor resources, and has broad prospects for cooperation with China in mineral resources development, trade in bulk agricultural products, building material production and cultural tourism. The Central Asian countries are also creating a favourable policy environment for attracting Chinese investment.
As a member of the Belt and Road Studies Network and the Belt and Road Initiative International Green Development Coalition, Taihe Institute has been paying close attention to the construction and development of areas related to the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). In the future, Taihe Institute will continue to work tirelessly to build more platforms and channels for economic and non-governmental cooperation and exchanges between China and the Central Asian countries involved with the BRI.
